Storage and Backup: A Practical Guide

Extra storage is useful, but it is not a backup plan.

Extra storage gives files more room but does not replace a backup. Check capacity, connector type, transfer speed, compatibility and whether a drive needs external power. Keep important documents and photos in more than one location, then test that you can open the backup. A simple routine that copies new files regularly is more useful than a large drive that is never connected.
